Roland Garros Lifestyle

In France, Roland Garros is a very important tradition. It is more than a sport competition, it's an atmosphere, a lifestyle. A quite
minimalist lifestyle if you ask me...

If you go to France during the last week of May or the first week of June, you'll fine everyone sitting in front of their TV watching tennis (or for the unlucky ones, discretely listening to the comments on the radio at work).
But what can drive people to sit in the hot court stands or stay in front of the TV to watch games that last 3 to 5 hours ? Of course the fact that the best players in the world are competing against each other on the legendary red surface. But it is also the atmosphere of the tournament that attracts people.
The tennismen are here to entertain the public as well as to win. They know that the public is expecting a show and they'll try their best to provide it to us.

However, the players don't only provide the show by their physical performance but also by their outfits

Roland Garros is all about atmosphere, balance and style ! And that is how I relate RG to minimalism. It is a simple pleasure focused on one thing: tennis. The atmosphere is amazing, people applaude, cheer for player when he is in difficulty, claim their love for their favorite players but they still respect the concentration and the calm necessary for the game. So much so that it's enjoyable even on TV. Indeed, the show happens on the court as much as in the public. Very often the cameras wanders in the stands to show celebrities, people's outfit, and people wearing the legendary Roland Garros boater hat.

So if I wasn't a poor college student and had the chance to attend this great event, I would probably be watching the most classy player ever, Roger Federer, and I'll be wearing a Lacoste outfit and Ray-Ban sunglasses.

As you may know, Lacoste is a French brand that was created by a french tennis player in the 20's, when tennis was still a "noble sport". It explains the minimalist cuts, the pale colors, the short skirts for women and the famous polo.

Lacoste Spring/Summer 2012The cut of these two outfits are very minimalist and the proportions are just right.
The prevailing element here are the colors and geometric prints.

No need for jewels nor accessories.
