Cristina Kirchner and the excess of style

This wenesday, Incognito takes you to South America for a new post on the Gown Diplomacy.  Welcome to Argentina, the land of Cristina Kirchner, a president who is caracterised by ambition and style.

In Argentina, the person at the head of the country is a woman. As if being a first lady wasn't enough for her, Cristina Kirchner, the widow of the previous president Nestor Kirchner, succeeds to her late husband at the head of the country.
The Argentinean president,  Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner
If her ascension can't be due to her closet only, it still plays an important part in the building of her image. Her favorite basic: the single-colored little dress paired with a long jacket of the same color. With or without a belt, the overall aspect is sober but effective. And her good taste doesn't escape the attention of the world who likes to inspect the outfits of this politically rising woman.

The president wears purple ginghams. All the colors matches.

A more sleek style but the same basics.

The legend has it that she owns hundreds of pairs of shoes if not one for each day. But Cristina Kirchner doesn't deny this fact, on the contrary. She claims her love for Gucci and Armani and do not pay attention to criticism. Indeed, she is sometimes called « Botox Queen » because of her perfect face, too perfect according to the Argentineans. Make-up is also a great part in the president's image. She never appears in public without make-up or her hair perfectly done. This all shows an obssession for her physical appearance which power she understood.

Perfect brushing, manucure and make-up
Cristina Kirchner uses colors a lot, her outfits are vivid colorful. Just like Queen Elizabeth II of England, she's not afraid of colors. The results is bright and it works: her outfits are the center of attention because a female politician has to have a perfect style.

A straight dress with her favorite accessory: the empire waist bet

But if she likes colors, she wore only black during her political campaign. Her husband died in 2012 and the widow Kirchner appears in dark colored outfits in expression of her grief. The people is moved by the image of this grievinng woman and her popularity rises. People can relate to her then, more than when she wears luxury brands.

Indeed, Mrs Kirchner's "bling-bling" image can be a problem to her political career. Her numerous pairs of shoes, her branded sunglasses and expensive outfits are as many signs of a passion for fashion that many find excessive. A female politician from the centre-left engaged in a struggle against poverty showing her wealth is interpreted as an affront for some Argentineans, not all. Even more so when there were accusations of illicit enrichment made on the   Kirchners.
However, striclty fashion speaking, the president may be wearing very expensive branded outfit, but she still stays sober in her style. Her dresses are usually sleek and straight.
So, is she a president ont top of fashion of an excessive fashionista ? Cristina Kirchner oscillates.

  1. I don't really find her stylish to be honest. It is a bit to blink! blink! for me. I don't see the problem with her loving fashion but style is more than brands and blink :)

    1. Well, I don't know if I would call her "stylish" but she definitely has something. At least she tries to take care of what she wears. Even if you're absolutely right, style is much more than just expensive brands, she still manages to let her clothes talk for her, because everyone in the world who knows her do so because of her love for fashion... :)

    1. Look, from what I've heard from my family in Argentina and from the media, she is absolutely the WORST president of all time! She knows about the money and poverty problems in Argentina, and yet chooses to take care of her looks and ugly face with expensive clothes! I mean, how can you love a person that cares more for her appearances than for her people. It's a shame, and I feel shameful every time I need to say I come from Argentina.
And I cannot believe how she won the elections for a 2nd time. Ridiculous!

  3. That being said, I don't have an inkling depending on if I might call her "sharp" however she clearly has something. Regardless she attempts to deal with what she wears. Regardless of the possibility that you're totally right, style is substantially more than simply unmanageable marks, she still devises a workable plan to give her a chance to garments talk for her, for the reason that as many people as possible in the planet who knows her do so due to her adore for design... :)
