Cadence Collective

For the first time in my entire life, I have legally bought music on the internet. Yeah, I know, why bother when you can easily download your dope for free ? Because today I downloaded more than music, I downloaded a concept, a mindset.

I bought Cadence, an album released a month ago by Cadence Collective, a group of musicians/artists who share the same musical aesthetic and therefore decided to ally forces in this desperate world full of "Beliebers" and people brainwashed by the post "Monkey Business" Black Eyed Peas.
Unsurprisingly, Cadence Collective comes from the physical sanctuary of indie music and post dubstep, the UK.

Five members of the group contributed to the album by composing two tracks each. However, the songs melt into each other as if this was the work of one single artist. More than belonging to the same genre of music, postdubstep, almost all of the songs have the same feel about them and you'll hear a constant, a recurrent sound in each song: a sound like a drop of water that is very distinct in Cube Face's songs and that you'll find in all the other songs.
There is only one exception: Kruisemode whose origins (NYC) probably explain why his songs are more funky. But it's actually the right dose of funk among the other chill/ambiant/it's-always-difficult-to-name-the-right-genre-of-music songs. The right dose so that the album can go further, and make sense.

If I had to choose a song to present this album, it would probably be Tell Me by Cube Face. This song is pure genius, music to the soul, from the rhythm to the voice samples. The rhythm is such that it is rapid but still feels langourous and deep as post-dubstep should be. It sounds effortless but structured and well-constructed at the same time.

I guess it is the idea of collective that convinced me. The fact that they decided to pool their effort to create something greater. That and their genre of music which totally corresponds to my minimalistic approach of art and fashion. No need for frills and over the top embellishment. It's sleek, and that's what enables us to appreciate each sound, each detail.
