Paris by night
Let's take a walk at night when the cities light up to shine. Buildings, street lamps, restaurants... There are many light sources. They create a magic halo that surrounds each city and that I love. I do prefer a city by night. For sure. Its phosphorescent charm fascinates me and I become intoxicated by the atmosphere that comes out of it.
The Eiffel tower, illuminated every night
The communication strategy of a municipality has an influence on this light. Just like moths, tourists are captivated by light. The first example that comes up to me and the most obvious, is the Eiffel Tower, of course. The Eiffel Tower and its « 2000 » for the change of century, the golden Eiffel Tower every night with its magic sparkling.
Strasbourg's cathedral, lighted every night
But when the city goes further, we can witness the lighting effects projected on Strasbourg's cathedral during the summer for instance. During fifteen minutes, the already imposing edifice acquires all its scale. Hundreds of tourists and native from Strasbourg stop, fascinated by the life emanating from this sacred place. And on the tune of a classical piece, this place reveals its details to the viewers.
Strasbourg's cathedral during the show
When the light becomes cultural, Rouen projects Monet's works on its cathedral. The French painter represented the cathedral according to the change of daylight on more than thirty paintings. The municipality of Rouen chose to project those same paintings on the façade of Notre Dame de l’Assomption of Rouen. The union of the pictoral culture and the historical and religious culture gives the show a kind of magic dimension. And for a brief moment, the reality and the mental picture of the painter seem to be one and the same. Fascinating.

So if you're a moth attracted by light, just like me, describe us the light of your city.
Show us and share it with us.
Show us and share it with us.

I find city lights almost magical. It's quite silly but one of my favorite views are the airport lights I see from the train I take every morning.
ReplyDeleteThat last picture is amazing. I wish I could've seen it in the flesh. Is that something they do repeatedly, or was it a special occasion? I think the grand French cathedrals are incomparable.
ReplyDeleteAs for the lights of my city - when I think of Brussels and light, I think of driving home on the highway and suddenly overseeing the entire city. Brussels isn't fancy, but neither is it a ghetto. It's a human-size city and when I see those lights, I imagine all the people living there, sitting in their living rooms, hosting dinner parties, reading before they go to sleep. There's something very soothing about it, that's for sure.
@Shophopper : I checked for you but couldn't find any answers, I know that they repeated it but I don't know if they intend to do it again ... and I agree : with such beautiful monuments, the lights can be nothing but fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the lights of Brussels, I really felt the atmosphere of the city as you feel it, it was really interesting !
