Few days ago I received a mail from Marianne Sea, the co-founder of Young Republic, an e-shop specialized in selling items of emerging designers.
E-shop : Young Republic
Founders : Marianne Sea & Andrew Yang
Where you can shop their products : www.youngrepublic.com
As you may have noticed on this blog, eventhough we sometimes speak about big brands we actually don't wear them. Why ? Firstly because our wallet wouldn't stand it and secondly because I definitely found that big brands has gone so mainstream that I sometimes feel that their originality (by that I mean uniqueness) has disappeared, if you don't believe me, you will certainly believe that Kenzo sweatshirt which went viral on most of the top fashion bloggers :

While some are looking for originality seeking for vintage or big brands' pieces , other are looking for it by seeking for emerging designers. That is the case of Young Republic, an e-shop specialized in selling women's, men's, and children clothing, but not only, as it also sells jewellery, accessories and homewares all made by emerging designers.
Though I have the feeling that big brands are going too mainstream I still love them as much as I love looking for vintage pieces and shopping at Zara or Pull&Bear. But I also totally support the concept behind Young Republic as it helps emerging designers growing their brand. Not only this platform is aimed for shopping but it is also made to create a community : you can make shopaholic friends just like you and write to the designer you bought something if you need an information.
Here are three designers that particularly caught my attention (click on the name of the designer brand to see more) :
1. Yes I'm French : Sandra is a french designer living Seoul, South Korea. I was thrilled by her clothes because they have this minimal touch that I love. She is clearly inspired by sportswear and knows how to make it chic. This cape demonstrates her ability to use material for sportswear and turn it into something chic, pleasant, simple, classic and yet so modern.
2. Pin Clove : This australian brand caught my attention because of the patterns it uses. It seemed to me that eastern and western aesthetics were meeting in this brand. This shirt is a perfect example of this mix. Its base is a simple black shirt that came enriched thanks to this patterned fabric used for the collar .
3. Paolo Coppolella : This italian designer based in Spain designs clothes both for men and women. Though I am more attracted to his menswear collection. I fell in love with these shorts that I could perfectly picture on me. I have the feeling while looking at his clothes that women can perfectly wear what he does for men and for me who is a big fan of androgyny I couldn't just ignore it !

I agree that sometimes the big brands start to lack in originality - finding gems from smaller designers pays off in two ways, you end up with a unique look and you're supporting an up-and-comer...years from now you'll be able to say "Oh! So and so? I wore their first collection..." thus cementing yourself as a trend leader rather than follower.
