New In & A view on asian fashion

This summer I did show you the maxi dress I bought at Zara here. Eventhough I love it I still wanted one which didn't show my legs. I find my perfect dress on Yesstyle, an asian e-shop I've know since four years. Browsing this site made me want to let you know about my opinion on asian fashion. So for this Moodstyle Monday while showing you my new dress I will also tell you about fashion in Asia.

People who know me are perfectly aware of my addiction to South Korea. I am addicted to this country because of its culture, its language (which I am learning by myself), its food, its dramas (korean series) and its fashion. When I went there two years ago I felt like they were ages forward us fashionably speaking. What I see now on most of the street style blogs were already worn by the korean two years ago. In this country trends seems to come and go faster than in ours.

My trip to South Korea was certainly one of the biggest motive that pushed me to create this blog. Eventhough I don't speak about asian fashion on Incognito, it definitely influences me a lot in the way I perceive fashion and how I dress. My travels definitely convinced me that fashion is cultural, eventhough we live in a more and more globalized world, there are still very distinctive traits that even fashion can't erase.
For example I am French so you will always find in my wardrobe cigarette pants, ballerinas and loose t-shirts, all these are known to be the basics of the typical french girl (I can already hear you saying that I am making a drastic generalization !). But having an african mother and  spending a part of my life in Cameroon also influenced me a lot. So in my wardrobe you will also find a lot of headscarves, big and ethnic jewels and a lot of colourful clothing. And since my trips to Asia I've also included to my style some of the characteristics of asian fashion such as large coats and blazers or asymmetrical shirts.

Yesstyle is one of my favorite e-shop when it comes to asian fashion as it gives you an idea of the trends in all Asia thanks to its blog but also thanks to the numerous brands that are showcased on their site. You can choose to shop brands from South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong, the three hottest asian fashion areas. This time, the piece of clothing I found is from a korean brand called Redopin :

For those following me on Facebook, you probably have seen this dress as part of my wishlist. Though its design is very simple, it was the zipper to convince me to buy it. This little detail gives me the choice to be simply cool or to be cool AND sexy showing a little  bit of my leg. As I already have some cute Asos tights to pair it with I can't wait to try this dress on !

A lot of people associate korean fashion to K-pop stars, as Psy and his Gangnam Style is all over the web right now you must see what I mean : very colorfoul, exaggerated (and sometimes strange) but always well cut clothing. But when I was on the streets of South Korea it was more about well cut, simple, well paired but original clothing that I saw, there was no exaggeration. I felt  like the simpler your outfit was the better it was, because the simpler it is the better you can match it with distinctive and original pieces and play with the shapes. To see what I mean you can have a look to the latest pictures shot by The Sartorialist at Seoul. Oh I almost forgot to tell you something : eventhough trends are coming and going faster, I felt like korean people have a lot of charisma. When I saw the same shoes or the same shirt on people I never felt bored because they perfectly know how to make a piece of clothing theirs.

Just wait a few days and I'll show you how I made this dress totally mine !
If some of you have already traveled to South Korea or Asia I would like to hear about your opinion on fashion there.

  1. Great post! I love Yesstyle. My friend introduced it to me as he is really into everything Japanese!

I ended up buying a cool waistcoat and some basic cardigans which I couldn't find on the high street in the UK. I love the variety they have some great classic pieces then some classics that have an east asian twist to them. Which make them really unique and different to most things you'd find on the high street in the UK.

    1. Thank you !

It's great knowing someone who has already bought at Yesstyle :).
I also think the same, that they have great classics that are original because they have an east asian twist and I can assure you that not only the hight street in the UK are missing this :).
