Today, I am going to give you my secrets to create a scent, a perfume that looks just like you. Don't worry there's nothing chimical behind it !
Two years ago my mother gave me L by Lolita Lempicka. This perfume which stayed in its box has never been used despite its very charming bottle. My mother : "Don't you know how much I paid for this perfume ? And this smell, how come you don't like it ?" Yes, this perfume sure smells good and is expensive but it is just not me. When I smelt the scent of L I could not figure myself wearing it because it wasn't me.
My perfume does not have a poetic like name nor has a beautiful case, it is simple and is modestly named eau de toilette à la noix de coco de Malaisie d' Yves Rocher (so basically a coconut perfume by Yves Rocher).
But what is she saying ? Didn't she say that she will tell us about her secrets to create your own perfume, and yet she is telling us that she is already wearing one ! So what is the formula to create your own perfume ?
1st secret: The choice between eau de toilette and perfume.
We usually speak about perfume in a generalistic way but did you know that there is a difference between eau de toilette and perfume ? Everything lays in the level of concentration. The more it is concentrated, the more the scent will be strong ; the less it is concentrated, the less the scent will be strong. That is why for this first step I'll advise you to take an eau de toilette. Because it does not have a high level of concentration, it is easier to personalize.
2nd secret: Avoid the eau de toilette that already have several scents.
Why ? Having an eau de toilette with one scent enables you to make you a clear idea of the type of perfume you would like to obtain. With an eau de toilette containing several scents, trying to match it with your cream and shower gel could be hard. Furthermore, instead of obtaining a good scent, the fact to have several ones could be disturbing. Prefer few scents to too much of them.
3rd secret: Choose your creams and showe gel.
Take creams and shower gel that have a similar scent to your eau de toilette. But you can also try scents that are the exact opposite of your eau de toilette if you like to test out.
If you want to know more, here is what I am wearing with my eau de toilette :
- Cocoa bean from Africa shower gel or cotton flower shower gel by Yves Rocher
OR
- Vanilla organic farming shower gel or oat organic farming shower gel by Yves Rocher
- Cocoa butter Palmer's cream or the shea butter, almond and argan body milk by Le Petit Marseillais
My choices in cream and shower gel are probably linked to my childhood spent in Africa where I learnt the benefits of shea butter, cotton flower and cocoa bean. They all are products that hydrate and give a great aspect to the skin. For me who have a very dry skin because of water and cold, that's perfect. Coconut has a soft and sweet scent which is not inhibiting and even when it is on the verge of disappearing there's still a delicate perfume. I match my eau de toilette with scents that have the same qualities: nothing that attacks, always delicate scents.
If you have your own little rituals with your perfumes tell me ! I am curious to know what you wear and how !

I dont know how many times I've explained the difference between eau de toilette and eau de parfum to boys ha..
ReplyDeleteand about not wearing the one your mom gave you, I totally understand. I'm a bit picky about perfumes too... why wear one that doesn't match your personality?
I've been trying different perfumes all my life and still haven't found that one I could wear forever and own as a signature scent.. I'm still in search of it.
Cool post!
Take care!
