Photographer: Eric Rose

Last week I introduced you to Incognito's new section SHOOT that THURSDAY. Now that you know that this section is about photography, what's more natural to introduce you to...a photographer. So today let me present you Eric Rose.

Eric Rose Tumblr and site: eric rose photos & filmesque

Why Eric Rose ? Tumblr has definitely become my territory when looking for awsome photographers and Eric Rose is definitely one. I like the way he portrays women and his use of Black&White. Sometimes he photographs people, sometimes objects, sometimes little tiny details of people and sometimes little tiny details of objects. And each time I can't help but feel touched. Black&White always add more intensity to a picture because you don't have any other colors to disturb your eyes, it helps you concentrate on details, emotions, attitudes etc...I think that is precisely why I like Eric pictures so much. I am certainly not in his mind to understand perfectly what he was thinking when shooting but he sure succeeds in capturing my mind with his pictures.

What I'm seeing. The woman on this picture is really captivating. While watching this shot in its whole, I realized I couldn't take my eyes off her, not that the background doesn't appeal to me but her total black outfit, her walking pose and her face totally hypnotized me. She sure has an attitude. It is not a matter of knowing how to strike a pose like a model would do, oh no, it is much more than this, believe me. While she seems to be walking very firmly her face shows a very gentle expression as if she were daydreaming and all this giving you the impression to be watching you. And here comes the background all blurry and in different tones of grey to help us focus even more on that woman.
I'm on my way to understand fashion photography especially the ones proposed by magazines. Beautiful models in beautiful clothes and probably a well thought concept behind all this, but it lacks of emotion in my opinion. This picture by Eric Rose is full of emotions while being very fashionable. An all black outfit worn with boots to give an edgy appearance to the model and yet all this is softened thanks to this headscarf she is wearing  giving a chic vibe in its own way.

And you, what are you seeing ?

Just like Absolute.B has her own sanctuary for music I do have mine for photography so don't hesitate to visit SHOOT that SHUG

  1. I started reading this post, clicked on his tumblr and didn't realize that more than 5 minutes had passed by while I was looking through his work.. it's very captivating in deed.
I like that everything's in black and white, if you'd seen my illustrations, my style is black and white too, and though I've been experimenting with color lately.. I gotta admit the absence of color is my thing.. I think it speaks louder, without the distraction of color, your eyes, your mind focus a bit more on what you've got in front.. plus.. I think you add the colors inside your head, the ones YOU would like to see... imagination... can't beat that.

    1. This is exactly what happened when I discovered him, his work is really captivating, I think this is the perfect word to describe it, captivating.
I'm so happy that you relate drawing to photography. I see that we share the same point of view when coming to B&W. I like both your B&W drawings and your colored ones but I must admit that I do like when you just add one color to your B&W drawings. I also agree with you about the fact that you can add colors in your mind ;)
