You say Cannes festival, I say cinema and glamour. Just not this year.
This year, it was celebrities and fashion without the usual magic.
This year, it was celebrities and fashion without the usual magic.
Fashion Week, Met Ball and Resort collections (Lagerfeld's Cruise collection for Chanel for instance) are all fashion events. But they just go one after another so fast that it's very hard to enjoy them all. Fashion is not restriceted to runways or magazines anymore. It is omnipresent. Every event is turned into a fashion week by journalists and bloggers. Coachella for example. I've seen so many photos of hipsters' outfits that I almost forgot it was a music festival. And the Cannes festival was no different. The city of cinema was not only invaded by actors but also models and fashionistas.
Now that the Festival de Cannes storm is over, I can talk to you about it. Being flooded by photos of celebrities gowns was just exhausting and drove us away from the festival's true meaning: the celebration of cinema. So much so that this year, I feel like I had a fashion overload.

Let's be honest, Cannes may be a cinema festival, but it's also one of the place to be for a celebrity. And what's best than the most extravagant, beautiful, original gown in order to be seen ? I understand that making an appearance at this festival is important since it is highly publicised. I mean, Kim Kardashian was at the festival. But is she an actress ? Definitely not, but she was there, and wearing Balmain what is more. But Cannes is also a way for fashion designers to publicize their designs. When talking about Cannes, fashion magazines and fashion blogs mention the celebrities AND their high fashion gowns. It's just too much. The stars shine thanks to their garments and not by their charm anymore. A very ironical fact when the icon of the festival is Marylin Monroe, the personification of glamour. She is remembered by her charm more than the dress she wore for the festival.
Among the flood of photos from the festival, two particularly caught my attention because of their glamourous charge. They represent Fan Bing Bing and Aishwara Rai.

| Fan Bing Bing |
Let's face it: the disgn of the dress is beautiful but the prints are awful. My grand-mother could use them as a napkin. However, the actress looks so graceful that my mind totally ignored the napkin effect. Fan Bing Bing shines in her dress, it's not the dress only that make her shine.

| Aishwara Rai |
In India, Aishwara Rai is the center of a polemic. Indeed, she was elevated to the status of divinity therefore she is blamed for not trying to loose the pounds she gained after giving birth. Nevertheless, she is beautiful on the red carpet, graceful and embracing her femininity.
