Last week, we concluded our fashion post telling you that Incognito was invited to the Gianfranco Ferré night for a special reason.
"I want energy, a vibrant energy that generates optimism. I want reality and consciousness of our time. And at the same time, I want to dream, but without looking to a past so recent which I see the vulgar side coming back. I dream of excitement, total fusion of water, wind and sand. A nature that transforms matter and gives form to the fabrics. Because I seek transparency effects which exult the body in a purely sporting and poetic way .."
That is how Gianfranco Ferré described his 1991 Spring/Summer ready-to-wear collection (but it could also describe his life work). In the last post, I emphasized the fact that fabric was very important for Ferré. However, this quote made me realize how he considers designing as a whole. Fabric is supposed to sublimate the body.
These two photos show a dress from the 1991 Ferré collection and to me, the way the models wear the garment represents exactly what Gianfranco Ferré wrote in the above quote: the movement of the elements is represented by the draping of the skirt, and the sublimation of the boy is made possibile by the see-through effects and the embroidery.
Like I told you in the previous post, the italian independent magazine Pizza payed a tribute to the designer by organizing an exhibition of fake covers inspired by the latter's work. What I did not tell you was that I myself posed for a fake cover, that of photographer Alan Maglio. When he offered me to work with him, I was so very surprised because i knew and liked his work. His photos look like documentary photos and he knows how to find magic and beauty in things and people.
However, Alan didn't hide the fact that he isn't that interested in fashion. He still managed to capture the essence of Gianfranco Ferré's work and that is why I accepted to work with him. His idea was to use sketches from the ready-to-wear spring/summer collection of 1991.
He wanted to dress my body with them. Here is the result:
This fake cover wasn't the one Alan showed at the exhibition but it is my favorite. I like it the most because it is more intriguing and also because it works as a dyptich with the other cover (the one that was presented at the Gianfranco ferré Foundation).
Like I said, I accepted to pose because the photographer's idea was simple and original: I am wearing a sketch, and not any sketch, that of a great designer, Gianfranco Ferré, and there is this idea of transparency and sublimated body that he liked.
For those who may wonder about nudity, know that I am not afraid of it even though I am not an exhibitionnist. I have been a model for four years now and it is my way of expressing myself artistically. The nude takes part in photography as well as in paintings or sculptures. Of course, posing naked is not easy and I waited a long time before doing it. It came after and because I created my aesthetic in photography. By being a model, I also learned how to appreciate photography as an art. And Helmut Newton by the way is a great photographer who takes photos of nude.
Fashion dresses the bodies even though nowadays some people want us to believe that is the contrary.

I love how it looks the overlaying of the scketch with your nude photo is very sublime and beautiful.x
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you reacted positively to this article ! I so wanted to show you this artistic part of me, so seeing you reacted like this gives me the will to continue doing so.
DeleteI dont see how you could not appreciate photography as an art if you are a fashion blogger. These pics (and the idea behind) are awesome. I would have killed to be on them myself ;) What a great experience it must have been.. thanks for sharing it with us.. what about more posing/modelling tips in the future article? We all need guidance.. well especially me!

For photography when it comes to nude eventhough you love fashion sometimes people just don't get it. You have plenty of professional fashion models who refuse to pose nude you know because it is often associated to erotic or sex. It is indeed a great experience especially when meeting photographers who let you participate in the project, by that I mean also giving him/her your ideas, not just posing, I like it more when it is a collaboration.
DeleteI am really glad to know you want more articles about it ! I was thinking about it since a moment because being a model is a part of me. I will try giving some tips about posing/modelling eventhough I don't consider myself a professional model though.
