Every Monday, Incognito gives you an insight of its vision of fashion through a look or a post dedicated to fashion. Today, Shug'A'Very introduces you to her favorite magazines: Maps and Cracker Your Wardrobe.

Through this video you can see some of the fashion magazines I have with me in Italy. I wanted to share them with you as they represent a vision of the world on their own. I have french, italian, english, japanese and korean magazines. When browsing through them, one can see that even though fashion is a phenomenon which standardizes, each country has its own conception of a fashion magazine. More importantly: one can find very diverse forms of inspiration in them in order to create one's own style.
My trips to Japan and South Korea convinced me even more. Unlike celebrities or bloggers who try to impose their own style on us rather than giving us inspiration, the Asian fashion world seems to have found the right balance between fashion and style. Of course, they have a strong passion for famous designers and well-known ready-to-wear brands, but style is undubitably very present. That is why I chose two Korean magazine to present to you in the video: Maps and Cracker Your Wardrobe.

According to me, Maps is a magazine that keeps its reader updated on the new trends but still manages to include its own style, mainly thanks to a few street style shots. Style is the keyword for this magazine. The title of this issue's cover is "Killed for Fashion" and it shows a guy wearing a wrestler's mask with a pair of sunglasses. Not that trendy actually, but he is surely giving us attitude. Maps is all about attitude.
Cracker Your Wardrobe is probably my favorite magazine. Its name is very revealing, it adresses directly the reader. It is then not surprising that the cover shows a street style photo of two tokyoites. No photo shoot with famous designers' clothes or make up or setting. What matters here is the street, people and their own style. Cracker Your Wardrobe is the magazine for "real people" like you and I.
Which magazines do you guys read and why ?

I do not tend to read Asian magazines (barely have the time to keep up with italian, engilsh and french!)- but really enjoy their editorials. Will keep an eye out for these to flick through next time I go to a (proper) magazine stand here in London!
ReplyDeleteAsian magazines are really interesting in my opinion, I bought them during my trips and I also found interesting that magazines in Korea are not bought in magazines stands but in library, so it means they consider them like something as precious as a book and they have them from all over the world, here in Italy I have to go to specific places to find what I want.
DeleteI really like Love Magazine, Colours magazine, Shon Magazine, Pop... just to mention a few mainly because the photography is amazing! x
ReplyDeleteOh interesting ! I don't know the magazines you named but I will certainly look for them, here in Italy most of the girls I know read Vogue or Glamour, it seems they don't look for others, but italian do have great independent magazines too. I also buy magazines in base of the photos quality, reading you I can understand evn more now why your photos on your blog are so creative.
DeleteCracker your wardrobe looks to be an amazing magazine <3

Deletethat seems like an awesome magazine.. I'd love to read it.. is it online?.. I'm gonna google it right now.. I've always been fascinated about Japanesse traditional culture yes, but also the modern-times culture.. what's up with the harajucku girls?.. why all those colors and prints and over the top outfits on the streets?/... what ever they're eating I want in!.. there's such a fabulous fashion scene on the streets of Japan.. cool post! thanks for sharing, I didn't know about this mag..
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for your comment ! I am really happy you like this post !
DeleteCracker your wardrobe has an online site but it is written in korean. I also have some japanese editions of other magazines that I didn't show there, this is totally different from korean editions, in Japan some fashion magazines always use the same models and these girls become famous because they model there. Plus they are way much more way influenced by occidental fashion than korean in my opinion because they showcase so much articles to get dress like "Chiara Ferragni", "Olivia Palermo", "Beyonce" or whoever.
