View of the cathedral from the sides of the river |
Strasbourg is a multifaceted city. It is mostly known for its half-timbered houses but the european capital also offers a great number of other sides to discover. Freeze frame.

District of La Petite France, typical regional half-timbered house

The district of la Petite France is full of little traditional streets with colored houses and exposed beams. Flowers or Christmas decorations (according to the season) decorate the windows. It is a peaceful city in spite of the waves of tourists who walk that touristy side of town.
The Esplanade Square and the Star Square, and the sides of the canal are the places of sunny breaks for kids as for adults. The swans stare at us from the canal and the library watches us from its height: great contrast with the huge mall on the other side of the water.

The Parc de l'Orangerie (Orangery Park) is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen; so big that by walking around it, you can see playgrounds, a little zoo, the waterfall, a pavilion of Japanese inspiration, the "castle" of the owners... It is definitely a place outside urban life.

Jardin des Deux rives, german side |
I will end the article with this photograph which is exposed on a see-through board in the Jardin des deux rives (The Garden of the two banks). This garden is separated in two: one part is french, in Strasbourg, and the other part is german, in Kehl.
This photo stroke me with its light. The contrast of the woman's skin and her white headscarf gives an amazing intensity to the photo; plus the sunlight that goes through the board that reinforces that impression. As regards her gaze, I'll let you make your own opinion of what it means...
